Aquilani Manager Reveals Contract Extension Frozen

Franco Zavaglia, the representative of Alberto Aquilani, has said that the chat about the contract extension of his client at Fiorentia had started, but, it got halted for some reason and it’s completely still at this point of time.

Aquilani has already had a couple of seasons with Fiorentina and he’s been pretty good for them. Considering that, it was believed that the 30-year Old would definitely be offered an extension this summer.

As per Zavaglia, the first few steps towards the new deal were taken, but, after that, he has not been approached either by the club or by the player himself. So, he assumes that the things are standing pretty still presently.

West Bromwich still in talks with Sherwood

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood is still in talks with Premier League about becoming their new manager.

According to reports emerging from the West Midlands, the two parties are expected to sit down for further talks this weekend as they try to reach agreement regarding an arrangement for the former Spurs manager to take over as the new permanent manager of the Baggies.

Foster Aware Of Hart's Advantage

West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster has revealed that he is aware that Manchester City number one Joe Hart will be the first choice for England national team as well. Foster was one of the names who came close to becoming the replacement for Paul Robinson at international level. However, he has not been in the frame for being the England number one since leaving Manchester United on a permanent basis. Joining West Brom has given him the ability to play regular first-team football, but it has crucially deprived him of top-level experience like playing in the Champions League.

BROM WIN 3 POINTS

West Brom collected three important points in the race for survival, but that too came against fellow relegation threatened team Norwich city away from home. Hence, this was effectively six points for the club, which could see them safely remain in the Premier league for next season. The appointment of Pepe Mel at the start of the second half of the campaign was left with several doubts from the supporters and pundits, as the former Real Betis manager was unable to get wins under his belt. He did achieve credible draws against the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea at home.

MEL RELIEVED

West Brom boss Pepe Mel breathed a huge sigh of relief after his team managed to a 2-1 win over Swansea City during the weekend. It was the first win he has achieved as the West Brom manager. This has helped him cool down the talk of being sacked after just weeks after being appointed in the role. He was brought in as a replacement for Steve Clark, but the much expected upturn of results did not come immediately. West Brom did look excellent in the 1-1 draw with title chasing Chelsea and Liverpool at home, but they have also suffered defeats as well.

Foster Penalized For His Protests

Chris Foy has penalized Ben Foster for his protests against a decision of a fair challenge on Marouane Chamakh in the match between West Bromwich Albion and Crystal Palace where the Eagles managed to seal a 3-1 win. The number one of the Baggies said that their performance was not up to the mark which is why the defeat came but insists that it is one win which would help them be on track again.

The Baggies has not been in the best of form this season and has managed to win only one game in their last 15 league games. Post match Foster was asked about the performance of his team to which he said that they could not get into a good position but came close to scoring twice but the lads could not get the finishing touch.

ENGLAND CALL

Ben Foster is expecting to find a place in England’s World Cup squad, but, he believes that it’s not him who will be the first choice for the boss Roy Hodgson during the tournament which will be played in Brazil.

Foster reckons that Joe Hart who plays for Manchester City will be the first in the pecking order and will play most of the matches.

Hart has performed fantastically well for City in their recent games. He was actually out of favour in the earlier parts of the ongoing season, but, towards the end of the last year, he managed to get himself back into the starting line up of the Sky Blues and since then, his performances have been really appreciable.

NEEDING GAMES

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster has been unable to get regular game time at his current club West Brom due to the form of Boaz Myhill.

The former Hull City goalkeeper has been able to keep the England international out of the first-team reckoning. Foster lost his place after suffering a stress fracture in one of his bones. He has been out for the last few months, but he only recently returned to training. His return has started speculation that Myhill may be dropped to the bench, but the current number one has other ideas.

FOSTER RULED OUT

The 30 years old shot-stopper Ben Foster has been struggling with a broken foot that has left him not able to play for either his country or West Bromwich Albion as he picked up the injury in August and it’s been over 3 months that he has gotten back to the pitch due to his lengthy injury recovery.

Even though he has not played in quite some time and his recovery has not been completed, he is still excited about the chance of being in the England squad for the 2014 World Cup.

"The chance of being in the England squad and going to a World Cup in Brazil next summer is really exciting," said Foster, speaking to the Daily Telegraph.

CLARKE HAPPY

The manager of West Bromwich Albion, Steve Clarke, is very happy with the way his side played against Arsenal on Sunday.
West Brom had got the Gunners under pressure in that game. They took the lead just a few minutes before the half time break with the goal of Claudio Yacob and they had a couple of chances to double that lead too, but, Nicolas Anelka who is one of their experienced players wasted both those opportunities. Later on, Jack Wilshere scored the leveller for Arsenal and the match finished in the form of a draw.

Although, the Baggies couldn’t get 3 points from the game but, they were clearly the dominant side.

Talking to the reporters yesterday, Clarke said, “We didn’t have a great start this season, but, in the last few games, we have got better.”
